Car rental at Tan Son Nhat Airport

Tan Son Nhat sits inside Ho Chi Minh City, about 7 km northwest of District 1, so most travellers reach the airport by taxi, ride-hailing car, public bus or hotel transfer rather than a rental car. A hired car is mainly useful for trips beyond the city — towards the coast, the Mekong Delta or the new Long Thanh airport site.

If you hire a car

• Arrange the rental before you travel and confirm the documents, insurance and return conditions with the provider.
• Drive on the right; traffic around the airport is heaviest at peak hours.
• The airport is reached by Tran Son Street, Pham Van Dong Boulevard (National Route 1) and, for Terminal 3, the new Tran Quoc Hoan – Cong Hoa connector road.
• Parking at Terminal 3 is part of the 130,000 m² services complex linked to the terminal by footbridges — see parking.

Alternatives to a rental car

Taxis and ride-hailing cars, public buses 109, 152 and 49 from the bus station in front of Terminal 2, and the free inter-terminal shuttle cover almost every journey to and from the airport.
