Getting to Tan Son Nhat Airport
Tan Son Nhat sits inside Ho Chi Minh City, about 7 km northwest of District 1. Buses, the free terminal shuttle, taxis and ride-hailing cars all reach the airport, and road links run to National Route 1. There is no rail link today — Metro Lines 4 and 6 are planned.
By public bus
- The bus station in front of Terminal 2 is served by Ho Chi Minh City Bus.
- Lines 109 and 152 run to the city centre; shuttle bus line 49 also connects the airport with the city.
- Line 119 runs via Mien Tay Bus Station to Vung Tau and cities of the Mekong Delta; express minibus services connect the same destinations.
By road
- Until 2016 the airport’s only main access was Tran Son Street, which caused chronic congestion.
- Pham Van Dong Boulevard opened in August 2016 and links the airport to National Route 1 at an intersection east of the airport.
- Terminal 3 is reached via a new connector road between Tran Quoc Hoan Street and Cong Hoa Street, giving an alternative exit to the west of the city.
By rail (planned)
Ho Chi Minh City Metro is expected to serve the airport in the future: Line 4, a north–south line to the city centre, and Line 6, an inner ring line linking to Thu Thiem station and onward to Long Thanh International Airport. Neither line is open yet.
Between terminals
A free landside shuttle links all three terminals every 15 minutes from 04:30 to 00:30 — see inter-terminal transfers.
